Demolition and Preparation
Protection: Cover the room’s furniture and floors, as this is a process that generates a lot of dust and debris.
Dismantling: Carefully remove the existing facing/surround (bricks, tiles, drywall, etc.) and the mantel (mantelpiece).
Structural Adjustments (if necessary)
If an insert is being installed, the fireplace opening often needs to be filled in and adapted using refractory brick or cement to ensure the insert fits safely and maintains proper insulation.
If a new hearth is being built or its size changed, masonry work and the base of the hearth are constructed
Install the new material (tile, stone, brick, etc.) onto the face of the fireplace.
Demolition and Structure
This phase involves tearing out the old and building the foundation for the new layout.
