Demolition and Preparation

  • Protection: Cover the room’s furniture and floors, as this is a process that generates a lot of dust and debris.

  • Dismantling: Carefully remove the existing facing/surround (bricks, tiles, drywall, etc.) and the mantel (mantelpiece).

Structural Adjustments (if necessary)
  • If an insert is being installed, the fireplace opening often needs to be filled in and adapted using refractory brick or cement to ensure the insert fits safely and maintains proper insulation.

  • If a new hearth is being built or its size changed, masonry work and the base of the hearth are constructed

  • Install the new material (tile, stone, brick, etc.) onto the face of the fireplace.
